| One
of the great things about Colinas Doradas Quetzalcoatl is its
location in Costa Rica. Nestled in the hills of Guanacaste and
overlooking the Pacific Ocean, there is plenty of interesting
wildlife in the area.
Within the property one of the most interesting native species
is the Howler Monkey. These large, brown monkeys communicate
through very guttural shouts that can sound otherworldly at
times. They typically travel in packs and can often be seen
traveling through the canopy while looking for food.
Another interesting creature found on the property is the
Green Iguana. These creatures have a variety of colors in
the area ranging from brown to almost white. They can be found
scurrying around on the ground or climbing trees.
There are also many interesting species of birds on the property.
Hawks and vultures can be seen soaring on the currents generated
from the hills. Green parakeets generally fly at lower altitudes
in large flocks. Many other species can be found as well.
Part of the property actually overlooks the Parque Marino
Las Baulas, the most prolific nesting ground of the Leatherback
Turtle. This endangered species crawls ashore in a special
night time ceremony to lay hundreds of eggs in the sand before
heading back to sea.
Between Playa Grande and Tamarindo, the estuary holds a number
of interesting species including saltwater crocodiles. A panga
can be hired to tour the estuary to see crocs and many interesting
bird species.
For those interesting in aquatic wildlife, sport fishing
boats can be chartered in either Tamarindo or Flamingo. Excellent
captains abound who can fish for many native species of game
fish including Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Sailfish, various
Tuna species, Roosterfish/Wahoo, and Mahi Mahi/Dolphin.
Excellent diving can also be found near Colinas Doradas with
dive boats leaving from both Tamarindo and Flamingo as well.
One popular spots is the Catalina Islands, west of Flamingo.
Good snorkeling and spear fishing can be found nearby at Pirates
Bay. |
